Control

What is a control?

A control is a single requirement or test criterion within a control bundle. Each control represents one question or measurement that an AI system must address to demonstrate governance compliance.

Controls support several answer types:

• Multiple choice — select a single compliance level (e.g. Fully Compliant, Partially Compliant, Not Compliant)
• Checkbox — select all that apply; worst-selected option determines the control’s score
• Text entry — open-ended qualitative response (informational; not scored)
• Test score — a quantitative score produced by an automated test run
• Document upload — attach evidence files
• Card — structured data entry with multiple fields

Controls carry:

• A citation to the source clause or standard they implement
• A compliance level that rolls up to the control bundle and policy scores
• Optional conditional logic that shows or hides the control based on prior answers (see Conditional Form Logic)
• Optional assignment to a specific team member with a due date (see Workflow)

Who can answer controls?

Any member of the AI system can view and answer controls in policies assigned to that system.

Who can create or edit controls?

Org Admins can create or edit controls directly. Contact support@asenion.ai for access to this advanced feature.
